In one of my recent classes, a student said in the second week that they were absolutely sure that there was no such thing as absolute and unconditional love.
The primary reason was that they and everyone else they knew had had people do terrible things to them that would never have happened if the other person had really loved them.
What if the only reason people do intentional damage to another being is that, in reality, they have never experienced absolute and unconditional love?

In 1964, Alice Boothby, wife of my Mentor, Albert Boothby, for whom this organization was named, was run off the road during one of her many routine trips to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was pursuing her Master’s Degree in library science.
The Klu Klux Klan seemed the likely responsible party.
In a faculty meeting that afternoon called to address the issue,
I said, “I hate bigots!”
Albert wheeled around at me and said, “That would make you the problem.”
“Unless we learn to love the bigot and hate the action, none of this will change.”
It appears as if Albert couldn’t have been more right!
