Music

Everyone has her or his own taste in music.

Why would I ever assume it was my prerogative to play my music so loud that it could be heard by another person in the apartment next door or in a car nearby?

That would be because I do not value myself and therefore have no idea how to value others.

Arrogance, conceit, self-importance and egotism are signs of fear and insecurity rather than wellbeing.

Now

Now is this second only. The past is gone and can only be learned from. The future is concepts, not experience. What can you do to experience the incredible number of things that have had to align in order for you to be here in this moment? ...

Igor

There is an angel-winged begonia next to my desk. From time to time, Igor has been eight feet wide and just as high. Now, about four by four. The delicacy of the clusters of flowers is absolutely stunning. The dark red leaf backs and green with white speckled fronts are ...

Beauty

Many old lines are grounded in the truth. For example, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” What would it be like if we looked at everything that way? There would never be a “more” beautiful person. There would be “different,” not “better.” Who else, other than the advertisers, ...

Quiet

Imagine the place in the world where you experienced the greatest sense of tranquility. It could be a mountain, the ocean, a lake, a flower, trees, desert winds, the sound of rain on a tin roof, the purr of a well-tuned engine. Listen to it in your mind. What does ...

Today

Today is a gift. Are you above ground and breathing? Can you see that there is a choice about how you will be? What attitude will i bring to this day? What will i do that is constructive, useful? What kind of a day will i make for myself? ...

Enlightened Capitalism

The top 1% of the richest people in the United States own more than the bottom 90 percent combined. The rise of the top one percent of our society is the result of a lack of understanding of the phrase “Enlightened Capitalism.” That’s where the investors, the management, the workers ...

The Small Letter (i)

Of late, i have been experimenting with using the small letter i instead of capitalizing it. As i do that, it must be corrected each time it occurs because the computer wants it to be a capital I. Using the small i reminds me each and every time that i ...

EVERYTHING

Everything you see in other people, their strengths, courage and determination as well as their weaknesses, damage, fear and hatred reside within you. The capacity for all things resides within each of us. What will I water today? What will I nurture? How will I choose to be? ...

Water

There is an old expression, “You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink.” First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
 Because ...

Dying

Why is the suicide rate among soldiers so high? Could it be that they were asked to do and did things beyond the scope of human reason? Or perhaps the human heart? Not one soldier or soldier’s family I know thinks war is a good idea ...
Silence

Just the possibility usually brings up a spontaneous reaction. Generally speaking people either love the idea/and or experience of silence or they abhor it.

Are you at peace with the idea of being without outside sound or disturbance long enough to listen to your heart and your mind?

A World That Works for Everyone

Who benefits most from war, conflict, strife and adversity at a global level?

Certainly not the soldiers, or their families.

Certainly not the immigrants created by war.

I wonder whether defense contractors will be our strongest supporters?
